Newbie Journal part 3
I am so excited about completing my Italian middle class gown that I am updating the
journal basically so I can pat myself on the back! (Actually, Erin should be cannonized as a
saint)

The first time I met Rat at a Scribal meeting he mentioned that they had several laurel
costumers in their household, Villa Luna. I didn't know what a laurel was at the time, but I
figured if someone was getting a scroll for it, it must be something impressive!

The ladies from Villa Luna came to the next shire meeting after a few back and forth emails
about costuming. I brought my bliaut and the god-awful green dress and Éireannach
Katleen Nic Ghiolla Chainnigh took pity on me and offered to help V and I sew our next
dresses.

Erin (for short) sent us a hysterical email about how we would not be using a Simplicity
pattern and so forth. Of course, we'd seen every commercial pattern known to woman and
were pretty certain they were all horrible.

So we go over to her place one evening and spend a few hours in heaven! She has the most
beautiful garb! She took many of them out and we had them all over the hallway and V and
I were sitting in the middle of all of these treasures surrounded by thick volumes on
historical paintings and clothing for hours. We spent
hours on our dresses (more like
months).

It took us weeks to get fabric. I put my guarding on so poorly and cut out my skirt fabric so
crooked that Erin had to cut 18 inches off the bottom of my dress and we had to
completely removed the guarding <laugh>. But she never batted an eye (at least while we
were looking) and made our "Stich and Bitch" sessions something I looked forward to so
much every week.

I will add a picture of my dress after Beltane, where I plan to take a picture of it on me. We
are starting our next session after Beltane and I cannot wait!!!!! I am gunning for a German
so Erin and I can spend months ripping out guarding! <just kidding> She did an amazing
job with complete neophyte sewers (She had to teach me how to iron my seams!)

On another vein, my son's English teacher figured out that we do this "medieval thing" and
asked me to come in and pose as "Lady Whinesalot" looking for a vassal to manage some
of her lands.

So I put on my bliaut and do the Princess Leia buns and a wimple and try to be lady-like
for an afternoon (admittably a bit of a stretch). The kids did such an amazing job! They
were in teams organized by ethnicity (The Franks, Celtics, Visigoths and so on). They made
castles and entire farming plans, plus a coat of arms and a history of their family and knights
and everything! It was really amazing! I awarded them all a fiefdom as they all were
awesome!

So I know some really amazing fighters and they generously offered to come put on a
fighter demo for the kids. Rat and Bryne came down to the school and Bryne brought along
Owen and Fabian and they put on an incredible demo. The kids were screaming for more
fighting and the teachers were trying to get the kids to pipe down so they could hear what
the guys were saying. They know SO much about the history of battle. I knew the fighting
would be cool, but the knowledge these guys have is quite impressive!

Owen got a brutal bruise! You can perfectly see the pattern of his
chain maille. I am sure
that one will be a lovely shade of green and purple at Beltane.

Of course, all of the girls were so excited about Bryne being a bad-ass, she was the crowd
favorite. And she is so hot, the boys liked her too!Of course everyone wants to join the
SCA now<laugh>.

So we went out to lunch after and had so much fun! Rat and Fabian were telling me about
this thing called the "spoon crown" where if you do something really stupid, you get this
crown made of spoons and you have to wear it around so everyone knows what a dork
you are. So now I found a crown I can achieve myself and without sleeping with anyone!
How cool is that? I also got to pitch Fabian on letting me bartend at the Saucy Wench! I
want to be a saucy wench! I will be the saucy spoon queen wench!

I tried to get them to tell me what the best way to go about getting this spoony crown, but
they told me "it's not something you can really plan".

Plus I got to hang out with Freddy, aka the cutest baby in the world. Between her and Evie,
I can't believe there is any more cute to go around for the rest of the babies.
